I’ve heard an odd criticism of the Patriots recently that has me baffled. There’s an idea out there that the Patriots losing two Superbowls has tarnished their dynasty.
I will grant you that what are considered the four greatest dynasties aside from the current Patriots went undefeated in Superbowls (1960′s Packers (2-0) and (3-0 in NFL Championships), 1970′s Steelers (4-0), 1980′s 49ers (4-0), 1990′s Cowboys (3-0)). However all of those teams had seasons in the midst of their runs where the didn’t win the championship. Not only did they not win the championship they didn’t qualify. That is a much lesser achievement than making it to the Superbowl and losing.
There’s this idea that by losing in the Superbowl you’ve lost your invincibility. Since none of these teams were invincible I’m not sure what people making that claim are trying to say. Maybe the kind of fans who make this criticism are the kind who only watch the Superbowl and it’s their only frame of reference?
Having said that it doesn’t really matter why people think that way, it’s wrong. None of these teams are perfect. The Patriots know that better than anyone. 18-1!
the Patriots are still the best dynasty ever. this article we put out shows how throughout the years they are still the best team and dynasty out there http://wellthatsdifferent.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/best-dynasty-in-the-nfl/ great post
